The Landstólpinn: nominations 2026

The Land's Pillar, the Regional Development Agency's Community Recognition Award, is an award presented annually by the Regional Development Agency at its annual meeting. It is an incentive award for individuals, companies, groups, or projects that have drawn attention to rural issues, strengthened communities in rural areas, or contributed to the advancement of rural affairs, either on a broad scale or within a specific community, e.g., in innovation, community development, economic development, sustainability, or culture.

Nominations are hereby solicited for the recipients Landstólpans 2026. A jury selects from the proposals received.

Consider whether the individual, group, company, or project has:

  • Promoting a positive and strong image the countryside or a specific area
  • Attract attention and increase coverage about a specific area or issue in the countryside
  • Strengthen the local environment, either through increased community cohesion, job opportunities, increased recreational activities, culture, services, value creation, or other types of opportunities
  • Increased resident activity and gotten them to directly participate in the project
  • Promoting positive impact economic, social and/or environmental factors

It is not necessary to follow all of these points, but they should be kept in mind. A justification must accompany the nomination.

The award includes a work of art designed by an Icelandic artist. A prize of 1,000,000 króna also accompanies the award.

Proposals are requested to be sent to the email address landstolpinn@byggdastofnun.is.
