What is Heklan?
The Hekla Foundation is working on a partnership in community development, with a focus on living conditions, competitiveness, innovation, and job development in the South-West.
Its goal is to promote and support business and to build and strengthen the mutual exchange of knowledge, experience, and skills in the fields of career counseling, community development, and innovation.

Where does the name Heklan come from?
The name Hekla refers to the hekla that the old Viking settler Steinunn in the Suðurnes, and a cousin of Ingólfr Arnarsonar, gave for Rosmhvalanes outside Hvassahraun. Ingólf gave her the land that is now the Southlands, but she preferred to call it a purchase, and that is how the heklan came into being. Steinunn later gave her nephew Eyvind a part of her land grant from Vogastapi to Hvassahraun.

Heklan provides consulting to individuals, groups, and businesses on the establishment, development, and operation of companies, as well as other projects that support the business community in the South Coast region. Heklan provides education and training for entrepreneurs, manufacturers, and businesses. Provides information about support systems, grants, and financing.
Conducts support and incentive projects in the field of innovation in collaboration with stakeholders.
