What is Hekla?

Its goal is to promote and support the business community and to build and promote the mutual exchange of knowledge, experience and skills in the fields of business consulting, regional development and innovation.

Where does the name Heklan come from?

The name Heklan refers to the heklan that Steinunn, an old settler in Suðurnes and cousin of Ingólfur Arnarson, gave for Rosmhvalanes outside Hvassahraun. Ingólfur gave her the land that is now Suðurnes, but she preferred to call this a purchase, and that is where the heklan came into play. Steinunn later gave her cousin Eyvindur part of her settlement from Vogastapi and to Hvassahraun.
