Icelandic Trade Council is currently traveling the country to present a revised export policy and to report on its actions and services in support of exports.
Last year, a revised long-term strategy for Icelandic exports was approved at a meeting of the Export and Marketing Council. Icelandic Trade Board led the work on the strategy, which is a collaborative project between the government and the business community. Its goal is to promote increased export revenues and sustainable economic growth in Iceland.
In February and March 2026, representatives of Íslandsstofa will hit the road, with CEO Pétur Þ. Óskarsson leading the way, traveling around the country to present a revised strategy.
The fifth stop of the tour is Reykjanesbær, where a briefing will be held in cooperation with the Association of Municipalities in the South West (SSS). The meeting will be held at Hotel Keflavík in Reykjanesbær on February 26, 11:30 AM - 1:30 PM. Local soup and coffee will be served.
The meeting will review the main export opportunities for the future and provide information on the services and initiatives that Íslandsstofa organizes to support export companies. Then, Karl Guðmundsson, project manager for major investments at the Prime Minister's Office, will present the collaboration between the ministry and Íslandsstofa on major investments and discuss the government's industrial policy.
The meeting is particularly useful for companies that are engaged in or are planning to export, as well as other stakeholders in Icelandic exports. Registration for the meeting is required.

More about the Export Policy
The vision of the long-term strategy is for Iceland to become a leading country in sustainable exports. Iceland's competitive advantage does not lie in quantity or price, but in high-quality products based on purity, technological expertise, and the sustainable use of resources. The country's differentiation is therefore based on targeted branding and marketing, leveraging Iceland's image as a leading nation in sustainability to generate increased interest and demand for high-quality Icelandic products and services. Read more about the policy here.right.
The strategy was developed in extensive consultation with the business community, interest groups, and institutions, with about 400 representatives from all major export sectors participating in its development. The strategy includes measurable goals, industry focus areas, and defined market areas for the coming years. Each year, Íslandsstofa issues an action plan to support Icelandic exports. Actions of the year can be viewed here..
